My Love

I watch my love as we drive down a country road

thinking how 24 years have gone by with a blink of an eye:

Our joys and pains together:

How we held hands when we were 16 in the face of hatred ,

eloped at 20 against the wishes of our parents and community

sleeping in our car in the parking lot of Holiday Inn until the security asked us to leave:

we then only had $50 in our bank and  a Dodge Omni to our name: we could not afford any more.

How we are content at all times yet seeking more,

lovers becoming parents.

“Believe in Life even when dreams turn to ashes:

I am grateful to have seen the birds fly with His Eyes

and drank from the cup of life.

Remember me as the 16 year old.”
